Sustaining the gains from Lean / Continuous Improvement efforts has long been recognized as the most challenging part.  The Shingo Model™ is about creating a culture of lean sustainment and provides the foundational tools for sustaining gains.

Three Insights of Enterprise Excellence™

 The Shingo Model™ is based on the Three Insights of Enterprise Excellence™:

2. Beliefs and Systems Drive Behavior

3. Principles Inform Ideal Behaviors

The principles apply in any organization and ultimately provide the scaffolding for sustaining any operational excellence effort. A basic understanding of the Shingo Model™ is developed through five successive workshops. 

Guiding Principles

 The Shingo Model™ is not an additional Lean program or change initiative to implement. Rather, it introduces the 10 Shingo Guiding Principles on which to anchor your current initiatives. It fills the gaps in your efforts towards ideal results and enterprise excellence. 



 A prerequisite for the other three workshops– DISCOVER EXCELLENCE is our foundational,two-day workshop that introduces the Shingo Model™, the Guiding Principles and the Three Insights to Enterprise  Excellence™. With real-time discussions and on-site learning at a host organization, this program is a highly interactive experience. It is designed to make your learning meaningful and immediately applicable as you learn how to release the latent potential in your organization and achieve enterprise excellence.

 Cultural enablers make it possible for people within the organization to engage in the transformation journey, progress in their understanding and, ultimately, build a culture of enterprise excellence. Enterprise excellence is not achievable through top-down directives or piecemeal implementation of tools. It requires a widespread commitment throughout the organization to execute according to the principles of enterprise excellence. 


Continuous improvement begins by clearly defining value through the eyes of customers. IMPROVE continues the discussion around ideal behaviors, fundamental beliefs and behavioral   benchmarks as they relate to the principles of Continuous Improvement:

 To succeed, organizations must develop management systems that align work and behaviors with  principles and direction in ways that are simple, comprehensive, actionable and standardized. The work of a team is greater than the sum of its individual parts. 

 Creating value for customers is ultimately accomplished through the effective alignment of every value stream in an organization. ALIGN concludes the Shingo workshops diving into the principles of Enterprise Alignment:

 This course is the capstone course that takes all the detailed learnings from the previous courses built  around the Shingo Model™.

It addresses the integrated execution of systems that drive behavior toward the ideal as informed by the principles in the model and answers the question: “How does my organization use the Shingo Model to transform its culture into one of enterprise excellence?”

BUILD EXCELLENCE helps build a structured roadmap to execute a cultural transformation built upon a foundation of principles, using tools that already exist within many organizations, to build systems that drive behavior to consistently deliver desired results. This course guides attendees through the development of an execution/deployment methodology that is customized to their organization’s specific cultural needs and desired results. 


PUBLIC WORKSHOPS - We are always looking for gracious hosts for our Shingo Model Training.  Public workshops provide organizations with the opportunity to receive the insights of visitors from outside their organization. If you are interested in being a host company please let us know. We offer special rates for our gracious hosts.  

PRIVATE WORKSHOPS -   Often organizations request privately held, in-house workshops from Shingo Institute Affiliates, where the learning is specifically centered and focused on their culture. As a Licensed Affiliate we are available to facilitate workshops at your site and with years of consulting experience in various industries, we can assist you with your organization's specific challenges.
